I am a persnickety sleeper. There is a bit of princess and the pea in me. Ever since that whole cracking my chest open experience I have needed several pillows and a soft bed to get a good nights sleep. This made Japan miserable since there is no bed in Japan that is soft. It has also meant that my nights have been a bit hit or miss on the trip. Some places work. A lot don’t. Our stay in Corsica was glorious partly because I could catch up on weeks of bad sleep. It appears however that Italy will not be so good to me. With a sample size of 3 I am coming to the sad conclusion that Italian are hard bed people. (maybe if other parts of life are nice it is important to inject 8+ hours of mystery into your day) Our current B&B boasts of “Orthopedic Beds.” Orthopedic my ass. Or more specifically I would like to beat whatever orthopedist thought these beds were a good idea. I have to admit, they are uniformly hard, no lumps or bumps like we have found many places, but I think they achieved this by placing a piece of plywood over the mattress and calling it a day.
