Pineapple Express or Morning on the Mekong Delta

We woke up bright and early Saturday morning to see a small floating market.

Our boat mates capturing the early morning market

Then we cruised on the river for awhile before getting off the big boat onto a smaller boat to visit a large floating market from more of a ground (or should I say, river) level.

You can tell what different boats sell by what fruit or vegetable they hoist up like a flag

This boat sells pineapples
We climbed aboard and the owners cut us some pineapples. They did this perfectly and without using an actual cutting surface, i.e. neither the inside of the fruit nor the knife ever touched the surface of the boat.

Then we ate the pineapple and took pictures of ourselves, because of course, what else would we do.
That is when we noticed them surreptitiously taking pictures of us! This made me silly happy. Maybe, just maybe, we were almost as novel and weird to them as they are to us. So we posed for pictures for them, and asked them to pose for picture for us. Later we asked our guide why they would want pictures of us and she said they wanted to show their relatives that foreigners had been on their boat. Cool.

After our snack we watched a few more market boats pass
